Invention that converts crop waste into renewable energy wins James Dawson award
A 27-year-old student has won the first-ever sustainability prize in this year’s James Dyson awards. Carvey Ehren Maigue’s Aureus system uses rotting vegetables and fruit to absorb UV light from the sun, which is then converted into clean renewable energy. The new material can be placed on walls and window panels and, unlike solar panels, remains effective when not directly facing the sun.
